"July 10, 2009, DAYTONA BEACH, FL -- Building on their green legacy, Ocean Waters Hotels & Resorts has found a way to reduce waste and also give back to local charities.
Ocean Waters has partnered with the Clean the World Foundation and Earth Pageant Productions to safely recycle unused soap and shampoo from guest rooms and provide them to local charities.
"The Plaza Resort & Spa was the first certified green hotel on the Daytona Beach Oceanfront. We want to continue to push forward and lessen the environmental impact of all our hotels," says Rob Pici, Vice President of Ocean Waters and General Manager of the Plaza.
Used soaps will be recycled and cleaned using a hygienic process before being redistributed. Soaps and shampoos will be distributed to the STAR Family Shelter in Daytona Beach and other Central Florida shelters. The STAR Center provides shelter to homeless families with children in Volusia County. Ocean Waters was a founding contributor to the STAR Center when it was first opened.
The new, green, initiative was brought to Ocean Waters with the help of Miss Teen Earth Florida, Jolie Noelle Schamber. Ms Schamber spearheaded collaboration between Ocean Waters and "Clean the World Foundation."
"We all share responsibility to do what we can to ease our burden on the Earth," says Ms. Schamber, "Not only can we reprocess the (usually) wasted quantities of soap... but we can help local charities who can't afford to provide these basic necessities to the people they support."
Unused portions of soap and shampoo are collected from all 24 properties in the Ocean Waters Family.
The STAR Center is located at 340 N. Street in Daytona Beach."
